Beaverton Municipal Court

The City of Beaverton handles a majority of their misdemeanor crimes through their own Municipal Court.  The courtroom for Beaverton Municipal Court is located inside the Beaverton City Hall building. All court appearances for Beaverton Municipal Court cases occur in this courtroom.

When a person receives a criminal citation to appear in Beaverton Municipal Court, they must appear on the date specified on the citation. If the person fails to appear on the designated date, the court has the authority to issue an arrest warrant. If a person has received a criminal citation to appear in Beaverton Municipal Court, they should contact a criminal defense attorney prior to the hearing. Should the person not have the financial resources to hire an attorney, they can request a court appointed attorney the day they appear in court.

A person cited for a crime may appear before the judge without an attorney. They can either address the court on the day they are cited to appear or they can attend “open court for criminal cases.”  For open court, you do not need to schedule an appointment. Instead, there are open court hours where the judge is scheduled to be on the bench and hearing cases. The person would simply check in at the clerk’s window before entering the courtroom and appearing in front of the judge. Open Court for traffic crimes and other misdemeanors in Beaverton Municipal Court is on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

It is important to know that Beaverton Municipal Court is a court of record and one should proceed cautiously if they decide to address the court without an attorney. Anything said in court is being recorded and can be used against the person by the Beaverton prosecutor. The misdemeanor crimes brought by the Beaverton prosecutor could carry anywhere from 30 days to one year in jail.

  • Reckless Driving  Class A Misdemeanor: Maximum possible sentence is 1 year in jail and/or 6,250 fine; Mandatory minimum 90 day ODL suspension with coviction
  • Hit and Run  Class A Misdemeanor: Maximum possible sentence is 1 year in jail and/or 6,250 fine; Mandatory minimum 90 day ODL suspension with coviction
  • Assault IV  Class A Misdemeanor: Maximum possible sentence is 1 year in jail and/or 6,250 fine
  • Harrassment  Class B Misdemeanor: Maximum possible sentence is 180 days in jail and/or 2,500 fine
  • Disorderly Conduct  Class B Misdemeanor: Maximum possible sentence is 180 days in jail and/or 2,500 fine
  • Theft in the Second  Class A Misdemeanor: Maximum possible sentence is 1 year in jail and/or 6,250 fine
  • Theft in the Third Degree  Class C Misdemeanor: Maximum possible sentence is 30 days in jail and/or 1,250 fine
  • Criminal Mischief  Class A Misdemeanor: Maximum possible sentence is 1 year in jail and/or 6,250 fine
  • Drinking in Public  Unclassified misdemeanor: Maximum possible sentence is 1 year in jail and/or 2,500 fine
